Avatoru Pass is the second, wider pass in Rangiroa. While Tiputa is famous for grey reef sharks, Avatoru is the go-to spot for seeing silvertip sharks. It also offers a great chance to see manta rays on an outgoing tide.

The calmer of Rangiroa's two passes. An incoming tide offers a drift dive with a high chance of seeing silvertip and blacktip reef sharks. An outgoing tide is the best time to see manta rays feeding in the pass.
